Academics

We provide a rich learning environment with a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate to the specific ages in each classroom. We also believe that social-emotional learning can positively influence academic and behavioral results. For this reason, our teachers devote time at the beginning of the school year, and thereafter as needed, to explicitly teaching, modeling, and helping children practice the skills they need to be engaged, independent, and productive members of their classroom communities.

Preschool: We strongly believe that learning happens through play. Learning and exploring are hands-on and are facilitated through interest areas. Our program is designed to enhance children’s development in the following areas: creativity, self-expression, decision-making, problem-solving, responsibility, independence, and reasoning. We encourage openness to that which is different from us, and the ability to work and play with others. As part of our curriculum, we gather information about each child’s developmental abilities and evaluate progress so we can modify and adjust what we are doing in our classroom so as to deliver the best individualized instruction for each child.

School Age: Our school-age children have access to high-interest reading material at every level, supplementing a comprehensive reading and writing program. In both literacy and math, students benefit from a combination of targeted small-group instruction and time to practice independently. They are taught how to make appropriate academic choices that reflect their needs and interests. Hands-on activities and a strategic use of technology to improve student engagement in math and science. Several times a year, we use formative, computer-based assessments to inform instruction.
The curriculum for all students is rounded out by Art, Music, PE, and Language Arts instruction.
